Holiday Pictures

We're back home from our Christmas trip to New Jersey. Although Katelyn did not enjoy the car ride, we had a great time and are so glad we got to see everyone.

After we got back from New Jersey, some of our friends in Raleigh came by for a New Years Eve party at our house. We had a great time playing with the Wii Fit board. :)

New plans for Christmas

My mom called yesterday to warn us about the Seattle storm. We decided to cancel our flight to Seattle today and rebook in early 2009. :( We're sad we won't see everyone as soon as we were hoping to. Jon and I probably would have gotten on the plane but now that we have Katelyn we decided to play it safe and stay at home. Now we're planning on driving up to New Jersey for Christmas to visit Jon's family and friends and we're really excited to see them much sooner than we were expecting!

Since we're not traveling today, Katelyn's having a good day. She's currently taking a little nap on daddy.

First Christmas

Katelyn has been enjoying her first Christmas season and having daddy at home all the time. She loves looking at the Christmas tree and got to meet Santa Claus and thank him for her early Christmas present - the exersaucer. Although when we put her in the exersaucer she was not all that excited. She just kinda sat there and looked down instead of at all the colorful toys surrounding her. We presumed that she either A) is too young for the exersaucer B) doesn't like the exersaucer or C) is holding out for that new car we keep promising her when she stops crying.

This is kinda boring...

This tree is more interesting though

I like bathtime now!

I have no idea who this guy is...

Yay for paternity leave!

That's right, Jon is home with me and Katelyn these days! It's AMAZING! I'm afraid I'll get used to it and be in for it come January 2nd. We are really looking forward to spending Christmas in Seattle and Leavenworth this year. Let me know if you want to get together and meet Katelyn.

Jon recently nicknamed her "KB" short for "Katie-bug" but I thought he was calling her "Katie" - I'm a little sleep-deprived these days. We have given her so many nicknames since she was born - ridiculous ones I never fathomed ever calling my child like piglet, baby bird, pumpkin and *gulp* cupcake. Now I'm worried that she'll enter preschool and her teacher will ask her what her name is and she say "sometimes it's piglet and sometimes it's cupcake!" Maybe we should start calling her by one name - perhaps her real name?

Anyways, here are some recent pics of our little piglet. :)

Tummy time!

The Kutches and the Browns came to Raleigh!

Katelyn got to meet a few of our best friends this past week! Uncle Mike and Aunt Jen drove down from Pennsylvania and Uncle Kevin and Aunt Jessie flew in from Oxford, England where Aunt Jessie goes to grad school. On Sunday we decided to drive to Wilmington and walk around the town and see the beach.

Uncle Mike and Aunt Jen left on Monday and Katelyn was sad to see them go. She is looking forward to visiting them someday and going into New York City with them so she decided to wear her NYC onesie.

Uncle Kevin and Aunt Jessie stayed until Wednesday so we went to Lake Pine and walked around. They discovered the brown zone and felt right at home.

Here are a few more pics of Katelyn we've taken the past couple weeks:

Pick me up!

Hi Omi and Nana!

Smiling!

Happy Turkey Day!

Um, excuse me, but I don't eat turkey yet. Could I possibly have some milk?

No, today is Turkey Day. You need to eat turkey.

But I want milk!

Katelyn Weeks 4-6

I have been so bad at keeping up this blog since Katelyn was born. I thought I would have more time to write now that I'm at home all day but Katelyn keeps me very busy! She went to the pediatrician on Monday and Dr. Wilson deemed her a "lap baby". As you can see there are lots of pictures with either Jon or I holding Katelyn - she doesn't like to be put down for too long.

Luckily he told me she isn't colickly, just a little needier than most babies. It is agony trying to leave the house with her but I do it once a day to stay sane. It usually takes a while to get her to be drowsy or asleep enough to put her in her carseat, get her into the car and not cry before I drive away. It is a fine art that I am slowly beginning to learn. Then she usually begins to cry again at some point during the car ride.

I figured out this week that she likes to be talked to so now I hold a little one-sided conversation with her if she's fussy in the car. It can often turn off a cry and make the car ride more bearable. It goes something like this "so now we're taking a right - how exciting! We're on 4th street now and soon mommy's going to get onto the freeway. No - don't cry! Everything's ok - you're ok sweetie. We're almost there (this is usually a lie). Now we're turing left..."

I am totally stealing my friend Carol's idea to take a picture of your baby periodically next to a stuffed animal to watch them grow (hope that's ok CEC)! Here is Katelyn each week next to Bruno the dog.
